Information Bulletin 2nd Half of Spring Term 2012

From the Head...

I hope you had an enjoyable half term. We are all looking forward to a productive and busy second half of the Spring Term.

The interviews for the KS2 teaching post will shortly take place.

Congratulations to all those pupils who have worked on the Science Week homework on the topic of ‘Our World in Motion’. It has been fascinating talking to the children about what they learnt whilst participating in this topic and to see all their wonderful poster designs.

Well done to all the children that took part in the NSPCC sponsored mini Olympic event. Altogether we raised an amazing £2880.00. A representative from the charity came to school for an assembly last week, to say thank you and to hand out the badges to the children.

The tenders for the school extension have been delayed, so at the moment we are not sure when the extension works will begin. We will send out the updated information as soon as it has been confirmed.

Information Bulletin Spring Term 2012

From the Head...

Welcome back to the start of the Spring Term 2012. I hope that you all had an enjoyable and restful break.

Congratulations to the Nursery and Reception children and their teachers for the enthusiastic and confident telling of the story of ‘Mary’s Knitting.’

The children and staff in Year 1 and Year 2 performed a wonderful play entitled ‘Born in a Barn’ telling the audience about the Christmas story, from the perspective of the animals that were there.

Thank you very much to all the readers and musicians who performed at the Carol Evening and the Carol Service at the end of term. It was wonderful to see so many friends and families there supporting the children and the school.

The staff have planned an interesting and educational range of activities for your children for this term. Further details are included later in this Bulletin.

Please may I remind you that the school’s annual assessments take place during the week beginning 14th May, before half term and it is very important that your child is in school for these dates, unless they are unwell. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.

Could I remind parents that only school hats or caps are acceptable to wear to and from school and please could gloves and scarves be in the school colours, either blue or grey. Some children are repeatedly coming into school having forgotten their hat or cap. As these are part of our uniform, please ensure your child/ren are wearing them to and from school.

I am sure you will wish to join me in thanking Mrs Tant and the WLPA for their hard work for our Christmas Bazaar, which was a great success.

Proposed Building Works

As many of you are aware West Lodge applied for planning permission to remove the two temporary classrooms at the back of the school and replace them with a permanent structure. It is proposed that these building works will start on Monday 19th March and hopefully be completed by the end of the summer holidays 2012. This will cause some disruption to the organisation and running of the school, which I will make every effort to keep to a minimum. The plan is to build a new room that can be divided into two classrooms when necessary and to join these to the main building, so that it will be possible to walk from the Nursery and Reception classrooms internally through to the hall.

The proposed plans will be available to view on the notice board by the side gate, in the conservatory and in the office.

On Tuesday 24th January, from 8:15am to 9:00am, Mrs Webb, Mr Hankin and
Mr Standing, (the Governor in charge of the building works), will be in the school hall to answer any questions you may have with regards to the building works.

Thank you for your co-operation, we are all looking forward to a wonderful new building that the children, parents and staff can enjoy using.

After School Clubs

Spring term clubs started on January 9th and finish on Friday 16th March.

This term we have two of our saints days, Saint David’s on Thursday 1st March, when the children in St David’s/Yellow House may wear something yellow with their school uniform, to celebrate. St Patrick’s Day is on 17th March, which is a Saturday and so we will celebrate it on Monday 19th March, when those children in St Patrick’s/Green House may wear something green with their school uniform. If you are not sure which house your child is in please check with their class teacher.

N - Y6 Parents’ Evenings Tuesday 6th March 4-7pm and Thursday 8th March 4-6.30pm

Parents of all our children are warmly invited to attend a meeting with their child’s form teacher on the above dates. Appointment slips will be sent out to parents closer to the date, to book a time for this meeting. We would ask that these are returned promptly please, with as many times as possible circled, to allow the teachers to give an appointment time that is mutually convenient.

The meetings with the teachers will take place in the school hall, as last term, with refreshments available. There will also be an opportunity for parents to look at their child’s work in the classrooms. We hope that this will help to keep the evening running on time, as we are aware that on some occasions parents have had to wait quite a while. Crèche will run as usual until 5.30pm on both evenings. We would be grateful if you could arrange for your children to be looked after during your appointment times, as some teachers and parents were distracted by children running around the school and in the playground unsupervised last time, which is not safe.
