Year 6 - National Portrait Gallery - 18 May
'At about 9:30 in the morning we made our way to the train station. We got on a train to Charring Cross. When we got off the train we could see things like the “Shard” and the “Monument”. We walked across some streets of London and finally reached the gallery. We went up the really tall escalator and went to galleries 17 – 19. My favourite picture was of the famous author, Jane Austin. Although this was very small, I loved all the pretty detail of the picture. After we visited these galleries, we made our way to St James’s Park to have our lunch. Then we went outside Buckingham Palace and took some photos. Then we went back to the National Portrait Gallery to have a special workshop of famous authors from the 19th and 20th centuries. They were Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters, Robert Louis Stevenson and Beatrix Potter. A woman called Pauline told us to then choose one of these authors and draw their portraits then write 4 bits of information about them. I chose Beatrix Potter. This day was great fun and the whole of year 6 enjoyed it.'
Imogen M - Year 6
'On Wednesday Year 6 travelled to the National Portrait Gallery, in London, by train.
Once we arrived there we looked around at portraits of famous people such as Sir Isaac Newton. Then we visited the gift shop and bought pens, pencils and rulers.
After that we went to St James’s Park to eat our LUNCH. On the way we saw Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s Column. After lunch we walked to Buckingham Palace and took photos. Then we walked past Clarence House which was quite grand.
We returned to the National Portrait Gallery and had a workshop where we saw portraits of authors like Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters and Beatrix Potter. Near the end we had to draw pictures of these people and I found this hard.'
