Year 6 - The Globe Theatre - 18 October

'The journey to the globe was quite long but on the way we saw lots of London landmarks. First we saw the shard which is still being built! Then we saw Tower Bridge and Mr Pressling told us that on the spikes they put people’s heads as a punishment. After that we saw were the mayor of London worked which was the gherkin. Then when we got off the train we started to walk to the globe. On the way we saw the oldest Gothic building in Britain! Which was built in 1222(Southwark cathedral).  Finally we got to the globe and waited for our guide. Then our guide took us to another building to do a workshop. We played a game about Romeo & Juliet were when the guide said “go” we would walk around the room and if she said “stop” we would stop. Then the next instructions were clap and jump after that we had to do a pose of love and say “my only love” when she said “love” and when she said “hate” we had to do pose of hate and say “my only hate.”

Then we had a tour of the globe, we found out many things like when the globe was first built the people who owned the land in the edge of Southwark in a place called black friars forced the globe to shut down by raising the rent. Then the globe was rebuilt on the other side of the river it was easy because the Thames was frozen so they used the original bricks. We then stopped for lunch and then we walked next door and went around the exhibition which had shown about the costumes, props and some things you can try on. In a small room there was a TV showing the plays of Shakespeare.'

'On Tuesday 18th October year 6 went to the Globe Theatre. First we left school to walk to the train station then we walked to the famous globe. Then we had a work shop on William Shakespeare plays (Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth) . We walked around the workshop and were saying ‘My only love, My only hate’, that was fun!   After lunch we went into the Globe Theatre and answered some questions. Then we left the theatre and went in to the gift shop before returning to school.'
