Computer Games Club

The clubs are primarily for leisure with a range of games based software for the children to enjoy. The pupils are also allowed supervised access to the Internet and explore such sites as the BBC children's pages. Many children in the younger group like to use the computer to make greetings cards, bookmarks, calendars, door hangers etc and to learn more about drawing packages such as Paint as well as solving puzzles in games programmes such as Barbie, Cluefinders and Harry Potter. Pupils in the older group enjoying playing games such as Zoo and Roller Coaster Tycoon and Age of Mythology and can learn more about any aspect of IT that we have covered in class as well as receiving assistance with any personal projects.

Website-Build Club

The Website Build Club for Years 5 & 6 is where your child will learn how to build and administer their own website, built using the popular CMS (Content Management System), Joomla.

Over the term they will learn how to log in to the adminstrator section of the site, to change content and pictures as well as to set up new users to access the site.  The site will include a private gallery and areas for the pupils to include things they are particularly interested in, as well as a blog area and similar pages that they can request in the 1st week. The site has been preconfigured with safety in mind and has no identifying features on the front page. The sited requires users to log in to see the content. Also, we will, during the sessions, focus on Responsible and Safe Use of the Internet.

In addition to the normal club fee a payment of £60 (per pupil, or family if siblings attend the club), is required to register a domain name @ co.uk, which will then be owned by the parent along with the initial 2 years hosting for the website. This fee, (which may be subject to change), will be renewable at the end of the 2 year period to continue ownership of the domain name and for the website to be posted online.

Anyone confirming attendance of the club will need to provide the domain name they require by the end of the preceding term,  in order that the domains may be registered before the start of next Term. Cheques for £60 made payable to M Newell must accompany the application.

Touch Typing

Pupils will be able to study using the 2-Simple 2-Type Tutor which is especially designed to enable students of all ages from 6 to adult, to learn to type quickly and easily.

The program is designed to enable users to type and master the computer keyboard fast by learning by taking your fingers on a whistle stop tour of the keyboard using typing drills and games. Learning to touch type with the program is fun. After a surprisingly short while it is possible to type out the words and resist the temptation to look at the keys

Once the basics are learned speed and accuracy are developed using a built in Typing Speed Builder containing exercises especially developed for kids. We are sure that they children will enjoy the course and that this will help them to develop sound keyboarding skills for the future.
