English Co-ordinator – Miss Susan Burke

One of the many advantages of our small classes is the individual attention that each child receives with his/her reading skills. Parents are also involved in this vital task.

The new library is regularly up-dated with new reading material, both fiction and non-fiction, and is used enthusiastically by all of the children.

All our children are encouraged to write independently from an early age and achieve an excellent standard of original thinking, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Cursive writing is taught from Year 1.

Each autumn The Young Shakespeare Company come to the school to work with all children in Key Stage 2. Year 6 also visit the Globe Theatre to take part in workshops and to act on that famous stage.

House Drama or Poetry Competitions are held in the spring term and involve all of the junior children. The winning entrants then perform in a concert for their parents.

Combined music and drama productions take place throughout the year. At Christmas the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 both perform Nativity plays, in the spring term years 3 and 4 work together to produce their play and at the end of the summer term years 5 and 6 bring the school year to a close with their annual production.
