Farringtons Cross-Country - 26 January
Despite the bitterly cold weather, our six teams from West Lodge bravely set
out to compete in the Cross-Country race at Farringtons School on Tuesday afternoon.
We were able to enter two teams each from Year 3 and 4, (boys and girls), and
a girls’ team from both Year 5 and Year 6. Our thanks to Parisha P. who
volunteered to make up the numbers at the last minute to enable the Year 6 team
to compete. Congratulations to Kishen P. and Katrina G. who both had excellent
timings in their races and well done to all those who took part in order to
represent our school. We’re proud of you all!
Year 4 - Netball Matches - 1 February
Year 4 went to Merton Court after school on Monday 1st February to play friendly
Netball matches against Merton Court and Colfes. When we arrived, Colfes were
playing Merton Court and we watched their game, trying to spot any good dodging
and passing. We played Merton Court after that and it was a very tough game
with Merton Court having majority possession throughout the game and some superb
shooting. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the game ended 7-0 to Merton
Court. Feeling a little downhearted but nevertheless still determined to score,
we played Colfes. A few girls changed positions and against Colfes, our defence
seemed much stronger with possession being very even. Colfes took the lead to
start but we quickly pulled back and scored another to make the score 1-1. In
the last few seconds of the game, Colfes got another goal making the final score
2-1 to Colfes but West Lodge felt much more positive having scored and should
be very proud of the way they played. Thank You to all the parents who helped
with transport and came along to cheer the girls on.
Year 6 - Netball League Matches - 22 February
Today our team played 2 more matches in the 2009/2010 league. First up were
Blackheath Prep school. Although West Lodge played really well in the first
half, keeping their opponent’s score down with super defending, in the
second half Blackheath Prep pulled ahead to make the final score 8-4 to them.
The second game was against Blackheath High. West Lodge kept up the good defence
and maintained majority possession of the ball. After a couple of superb shots
from our shooters, this game ended with West Lodge beating Blackheath High 3-2.
Well done to all the girls who played and thank you to the parents who helped
with transport and came along to support.
Trip to O2 - 23 February
Today a group of 22 pupils, parents and staff went to the O2 to watch the England
Netball team play their third and final test match against Australia. The match
was the decider as each team had won one of the previous matches. The match
got off to a really fast start with England taking the lead and increasing it
to 6-1 within minutes. The game continued like this throughout the first 3 quarters
with England increasing their lead to 8 goals at one point. In the last quarter
though, Australia began to close in on the England team’s score and suddenly
they were level! The whole arena were cheering England on, willing them to pull
back the game which was theirs but Australia managed to score 2 more goals ending
the game 45-43! Although the result was disappointing, the evening was really
exciting and all the girls all enjoyed the match and supporting their national
team.
