Musical Instrument Tuition

Individual, shared and group lessons with private tutors are held within school for your child to learn an instrument. At present pupils may receive tuition, subject to availability, on the following instruments.

Violin - From 4 years

'Cello - From 7 years

Piano - From 5 years

Brass - From 8 years

Flute - From 8 years

Guitar - From 7 years

Please note that piano tuition is available only as an individual lesson and pupils must have access to a piano, (not keyboard), at home.

All pupils in Years 3 - 6 have recorder lessons on a group basis as part of their music lessons, recorder lessons with a tutor are held on a shared or individual basis only.

Any pupils wishing to begin lessons should contact the school office for an application form. In some cases there may be a waiting list, however early notification will help our music staff to accommodate your needs.

Lessons are held in one of the music rooms and take place within curriculum hours. Lessons are rotated so that pupils are not absent from the same lesson each week. Tuition for pupils in Year 6 is arranged during break or lunch, as far as possible, to enable their studies to be uninterrupted.

Fees are charged on a termly basis for 10 lessons. Charges vary according to the type of lesson, i.e. individual, group or shared. Fees are payable in advance, directly to the tutor. Please note that if, without prior agreement, payment has not been received by the due date, the tutor reserves the right to withhold tuition.

If you wish to discontinue lessons then a half- term's notice in writing is required at half term only. Lessons may be terminated at the end of a term, however a fee equal to 5 lessons will still be payable, even though pupils are no longer receiving tuition. Please note that holiday periods do not count as a notice period.
