ICT

Subject Co-ordinator - Mrs Janet Kitney

Children in all year groups watch educational television programmes and pre-recorded videotapes.  They listen to radio broadcasts such as class assemblies and story tapes.  An OHP is available to display visual material and two interactive electronic boards are available for shared use in the ICT and Music rooms.  The children frequently listen to audiotapes and CDs as part of their music appreciation and dance lessons.  There is a camcorder for use throughout the school and two Intelplay Computer Microscopes are available to support science studies.  A computer designated for open use is situated in the Junior Library and two laptop computers are available for teachers and pupils to use at their desk or outside and on school trips.  All classes have access to their own digital camera and Nursery – Year 6 class rooms have an interactive electronic board for their dedicated use.  There are additional projection facilities in the Science room and main hall.  The Foundation pupils have an ICT box which contains a selection of electronic learning aids such as microphone recording units and turtles.

Alll classrooms have a PC with a TFT (Flat–Screen) monitor, and children in Reception to Year 6 attend a weekly lesson in the Computer Suite.  Computer lessons are focused on teaching computer skills which can be used to support work across the curriculum and there is flexibility within the Scheme of Work to adapt lesson content to include any class based work on request.

The Computer Suite is air-conditioned and all PCs have TFT (Flat-Screen) monitors.  The computers are networked and have Broadband Internet connection which pupils have supervised access to during lessons.  Staff and pupils may use the Computer Suite at other times by prior arrangement with the ICT Co-ordinator.  All pupils are aware of and follow a Code of Conduct relating to their use of the Computer Suite, Internet and e-mail facilities.  Pupils in Year 5 have an opportunity to see inside a computer and handle component parts as part of their studies.  There are two games based Computer Clubs for Years 2 & 3 and Years 4 – 6 and an after school Touch-Typing course for Years 4 – 6 pupils.

Both the Junior and Infant libraries are linked to an electronic cataloguing and lending system.  Class teachers have recently been issued with their own laptops.  We have installed a webcam to one of our bird boxes which the pupils will be able to view over the network and we are currently preparing for the introduction of a whole school management information system.

The ICT Co-ordinator and Assistant Teacher are responsible for in-house publishing including programmes, certificates, the School Handbooks and reports as well as the administration of the school’s website and libraries.
