Music

Subject Co-ordinator - Miss Emma D'Cruz

Recent national studies have shown that children who learn to play an instrument from a young age perform better in their academic lessons.

At West Lodge, a staff of two specialist music teachers and six instrumental teachers ensure that every child has the opportunity to play a variety of instruments and to play in one of the two Junior orchestras, the string or recorder group. Singing is an important part of the musical life of the school, every child is taught to sing and performs regularly with their class from an early age and may join the school choir.

The bi-annual House Music Competition is held in March, involving all of the Junior classes and culminates in two Concerts to which the winning entries perform firstly to the whole school and then to their parents.

The emphasis in all our activities is on the enjoyment of music, whether through listening or performing and in becoming more confident people as a result of this experience.
