Alumni Story 4

It was wonderful to welcome this former pupil, who is now studying at Colfe’s, back to West Lodge.  She generously donated three days of her time to work with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 .  We asked her about her experience:

What prompted you to return to West Lodge to volunteer during your holidays?

When I was at West Lodge, I really enjoyed visits from former pupils and I thought it would be interesting to return and to keep my relationship with the school going.  I’m exploring becoming a classroom or PE teacher so I particularly enjoyed the PE session with Year 6. My time volunteering will also form part of my Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

What have you enjoyed most about returning to West Lodge?

Seeing all my former teachers and returning to a place where I made lots of memories. Returning to West Lodge reminds me how welcoming the “West Lodge Family” are.

What was your favourite memory of your time at West Lodge?

The School Journey was great fun as it was the first time we had all stayed away from our parents for a week – it was like a massive sleepover!

What did you learn at West Lodge that has helped you at secondary school?

Academically, I took all the things I had learnt with me to senior school. I didn’t appreciate until I got to senior school what a great homework routine I had established through my years at West Lodge. This really helped me in the early days in year 7. As West Lodge is a small environment, I made close friends and learnt not to be scared of making new friends.  When I arrived at senior school this gave me the confidence to meet a variety of new friends.  I also still keep in touch with my West Lodge friends even though we went to different senior schools.
