Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge

Congratulations to the children in Years 5 and 6 who were invited to take part in the UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge, tackling 25 difficult problem-solving questions. All children achieved either Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
Maths remains an extremely popular subject at West Lodge and the final term of the year has seen a range of different activities taking place, both inside and outside of school.
The whole school took part in our annual Maths Day in May, with all classes completing investigations and problem-solving lessons linked to a variety of topics. We also had our KS1 and KS2 House Maths Quizzes and it was wonderful to see all participants rise to the challenge - we had some particularly tricky questions in the KS2 quiz! Well done to Green House for being the overall winners.
Four children in Years 3 and 4 were fortunate enough to take part in an AIM High Maths Day, completing a range of activities all linked to higher level maths.
The way in which Maths is taught at West Lodge empowers pupils to apply their knowledge to real-life problems and we are pleased this was recognised in the recent ISI Inspection:
"[The way the Maths curriculum is structured] enables pupils to apply their knowledge in problem-solving and mathematical reasoning".
